{March 22, 2009}   Years have passed…

…Since the time I first turned 21. I suppose it’s a double edged sword – it’s good to have grown older and seen more of the world, but it’s also really mind-boggling to see how time really flies, and how 4 years have passed in the blink of an eye. It makes one realise that life is short and if we really want to leave this world at the end of our short time here, looking back with no regrets at the life that we have lived, then we need to start fulfilling the things we want to in life, at a young age, and not wait until it is too late.

I turn 25 this Friday. Just a quarter of a century old. In all optimism, I probably have another 3 quarters left to go, before my final departure. While 75 years seems a long way left to go, I think that when it all plays out, it isn’t that long after all.

On a more lighthearted note after considering the leading of a fulfilling life, we were shopping in Takashimaya yesterday, so I could buy a bag (an overpriced one) that I’d wanted for quite a while, but never got around to buying. In the past, I’d used to buy cheaper bags (rationale, so that I could buy many of them), but after repeated experiences with the insides that tore, and straps that broke, I’d decided that it was much more important to buy stuff of quality, although it may be 10 times the price.

And so, I have gotten myself a nice Longchamp bag – a birthday present to me, from me! I hope it lives up to its reputation of being very durable and long-lasting, although it looks somewhat ‘market-type’ :) He had offered to buy it for me for my birthday, but I declined because I want to give him a harder time choosing my present and showing that he has really put some thought into buying me a gift. HAHA.

{March 17, 2009}   Move those legs!

We took part in the NTU bike rally yesterday (ok technically two days ago since it’s past midnight). Woke really early, at 445am.

We left home to cycle to East Coast at 555 am, and reached East Coast (Start point) at 630am. Flagged off from ECP.

Order of checkpoints:

1. East Coast Park

2. Labrador Park

3. Nanyang Technological University

4. Kranji Dam

5. Khatib sports centre

6. Serangoon Stadium

At this juncture (it was about 2pm), we had just reached the Serangoon stadium checkpoint (which is like 5 minutes from my house) when the ominous sky started shedding a few drops… so we moved into the bus stop, and barely 5 min after, it started to POUR. Not rain, TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR. And then I found out in the newspapers today that some big trees were even uprooted! So we waited. Technically ,there were 2 more checkpoints – Changi Beach, and finally, back to East Coast.

But since

a. We were not sure if the rally could even continue because of the rain (they would have had to call it off for safety if it didn’t let up); and

b. I was barely five minutes from my house,

We went home when the rain decided to subside a little.
We later found out that all the cyclists were swept on the buses and lorries to Serangoon stadium, and then many were transported to Changi checkpoint, where they cycled the last leg of the journey.

Kilometres in total: 128.

Kilometres we completed (including the distance from my house to ECP): Close to 100?

We went home to bathe, and then we drove to ECP all fresh to collect our goodie bags and chow down lots of Carl’s Junior. So much for calories burnt =)

It was still fun though! And for those who ever cycle along Mandai Road (on the way to the zoo), there are EIGHT grueling slopes to contend with.

Who wants to join bike rally next year! :)

{March 6, 2009}   Snoozey and Smiley news

It’s a sleepy afternoon. I’m probably feeling sleepy because I slept at 3am last night (this morning). And I just had rather oily food for lunch which was yummy, albeit artery clogging. And the aircon here is cold, making my eyes dry and sleepy. Or maybe it’s because it’s Friday, and I plan to leave in 4 hours time :)

I decided to write ten reasons why I love you:

1. You make me laugh.

2. You only encourage and never criticise me for anything that I do. This is one thing I am gradually learning – it is not easy – but it is a wonderful, wonderful character trait.

3. You seem like the happy-go-lucky, crappy kinda guy at first glance, which is great, but it means many people miss the beauty and depth that lies beneath.

4. You are great with kids. It warms my heart to see the progress of your persistence and finally the fruits of your labour with an unmentioned very cute girl, aged 4 this year.

5. You never give up.

6. We make a great tag team. We’ll be invincible if we each work on our strengths and fill in each other’s weaknesses (e.g. I’m great with puzzles, you’re great with maps – that’s why we won the treasure hunt! :p)

7. You never complain about things related to me.

8. You never tell me bedtime stories although I constantly ask for some.

9. You always find some way to make things right.

10. You’re just different.

{March 5, 2009}   Cookie monster

It’s a sleepy day. I have just eaten two Cedele cookies, after a nice filling lunch at Ichiban Boshi. We can see I do not have much self control. I also ate 2 nice cookies from Subway yesterday, and 2 nice cookies from Subway the day before as well. I also have two nice Subway cookies sitting in my fridge from yesterday (it’s a marvel they’re still there).
I am a cookie monster.

{March 1, 2009}   Some updates

It is late at night on the last day of Feb, and early in the morning on the first day of March. My birthday is coming in 27 days, and I’ll be a quarter of a century old :)

He bought me a pretty diamond ring for Valentine’s Day so I can’t bug him for one for my birthday :) But anyway. On other notes.

We just came back from watching Slumdog Millionaire – it’s pretty good! Next show up – He’s just not that into you.

In other updates, I found out that I came in 6th in the Women’s Event for the NTU Vertical Marathon, how funny! I have not collected my prize yet. And evidently, the top 3 women were in a league of their own because someone who only trained twice before the event (climbing up the HDB staircase 2-3 times which doesn’t count for much), was close to 3 min behind the top leading female (I took 12 min 56 secs to climb and the fastest woman took 10min to climb – note the difference). Will try again next year! Maybe Ion will have decided to train too and we can get top 5 in the lovers challenge =)

Our marathon is coming up end of May and we have not done any training. HMMMMMMMM… torturing myself for 12 min somehow I know is not the same as torturing myself for five hours…More training needs to start next week. Reminder to self: Jogging on the treadmill in a chilly air con room while watching tv in comfort does not count!

I need to make a trip to the hairdresser soon. An entire head of dark red hair has been appealing to me for the past few weeks – It’s time for a change!
